Every now and then I like to start my day with lemon juice and warm water. It’s a great way to awaken your digestive system. This morning tonic comes with bells, whistles and a ginger kick. In India turmeric has been used for thousands of years as a cooking spice and for medicinal use. It’s active ingredient is curcumin and extensive studies have shown it to have powerful anti-inflamatory and anti-oxident properties. The bioavailability of the curcumin is aided by the piperine in the black pepper. Drinking water first thing in the morning helps your body to hydrate after the night’s fast; and the lemon juice adds flavour and a welcome boost to your vitamin C intake. Juice half a lemon 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated 1 or 2 tsp turmeric 1 tsp honey pinch freshly ground black pepper water, cold/ warm filtered or fizzy
Make a paste of the honey, ginger, turmeric and freshly ground black pepper.
Squeeze in the lemon, add a grating of zest: if you wish (and it’s organic).
