FUNKEA

1995-1997

More fun than IKEA was a partnership between two friends with a shared desire to produce statement mirrors using traditional materials and techniques. The frames were carved from seasoned wood before being coated with gesso and clay bole - and then either polished or finished in silver leaf. The looking glasses are hand silvered. Although most pieces were one-off commissions, we did have some success with our run of "The Little black number". There is a great deal of satisfaction to be had from hand-crafting beautiful objects - and I do miss the smell of rabbit glue first thing in the morning!
This polished silver-leafed triptych "Altarpiece" was created as a site-specific one-off.
